  17. This document describes what configuration changes need to be
  18. made for PERSONAL NetWare and Windows for Workgroups to coexist.

  31. NOTE:     Novell recommends making and verifying a backup of all
  32. files on your machine before making any changes.

  34. This document describes two methods for allowing Windows for
  35. Workgroups and PERSONAL NetWare to coexist. Method 1 is more
  36. manual oriented.  The second method is performed through more of
  37. the Windows configuration utilities.

  45. To configure Windows for Workgroups 3.11 with PERSONAL NetWare
  46. 1.0, perform the following steps in the order listed:
  47.  
  48. 1.   Install Novell DOS 7 (Novell DOS 7 is not required).
  49. 2.   Install PERSONAL NetWare 1.0.
  50. 3.   Install Windows For Workgroups 3.11.
  51.  
  52.      When Windows for Workgroups 3.11 asks for the
  53.      Network type, select [ODI/NDIS3].
  54.  
  55.      When Windows for Workgroups asks if you want to
  56.      update the device drivers, select NO.
  57.  
  58. After the installations are complete, perform the following
  59. steps:
  60.  
  61. 1.   REM out the SMARTDRV.EXE line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  62. 2.   Move the NET START and ODIHLP.EXE lines in the AUTOEXEC.BAT
  63. to after PERSONAL NetWare's CALL STARTNET line.
  64.  
  65. 3.   If the network interface card was running on Frame Ethernet
  66. 802.3 before installing Windows for Workgroups 3.11, change the
  67. FRAME line in the NET.CFG to the following:
  68.  
  69.      ---> FRAME ETHERNET_802.2
  70.  
  71. 4.   Run the Novell DOS 7/PERSONAL NetWare SETUP.
  72.  
  73.        Answer yes to the question of updating the files
  74.         for the Windows directory.
  75.  
  76.        Install the Novell DOS 7/PERSONAL NetWare
  77.         diskettes as directed.

  79. 5.   In the C:\WINDOWS directory, make the following
  80. modifications or additions under the appropriate heading, as
  81. indicated, to the SYSTEM.INI file:
  82.

  85.      secondnet.drv=netware.drv
  86.

  101. First, you need to get Windows for Workgroups functioning without
  102. NetWare or PERSONAL NetWare installed.  To do this, complete the
  103. following steps:
  104.  
  105. 1.   Install and configure Windows for Workgroups 3.11 so that it
  106. will run on the ODI shell using IPX.  See your Windows for
  107. Workgroups documentation for instructions.
  108.  
  109. 2.   Verify that it is working (for example, map a drive, print
  110. to a shared printer, use the chat program).
  111.  
  112. Next, get the PERSONAL NetWare piece working by completing the
  113. following steps:
  114.  
  115. 1.   Remark (REM) the following lines that were added by Windows
  116. for Workgroups:
  117.  
  118.      CONFIG.SYS - the IFSHLP.SYS line
  119.      AUTOEXEC.BAT - the NET START and ODIHLP.EXE lines
  120.  
  121. 2.   Install and configure PERSONAL NetWare to run.  See your
  122. PERSONAL NetWare documentation for instructions.
  123.  
  124. 3.   Verify that PERSONAL NetWare is working from DOS (for
  125. example, map a drive, print to a shared printer, use the network
  126. diagnostics).
  127.  
  128. Finally, get the two networks to work together by performing the
  129. following steps:
  130.  
  131. 1.   Verify that the C:\NWCLIENT directory is before the
  132. C:\WINDOWS directory on the PATH line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 
  133. Both networks ship with a NET.EXE utility.  Windows for
  134. Workgroups needs to run its NET once to start the network.  You
  135. should specify the full path to it in the AUTOEXEC.BAT to avoid
  136. confusion with PERSONAL NetWare.  Because PERSONAL NetWare needs
  137. to run the NET utility often, C:\NWCLIENT should be first in the
  138. PATH.
  139.  
  140. 2.   Take the remark statements off the NET START and ODIHLP.EXE
  141. lines in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and the IFSHLP.SYS line in the
  142. CONFIG.SYS file.
  143.  
  144. 3.   Verify that the NET START line contains the full path to the
  145. Windows for Workgroups NET command (for example, C:\WINDOWS\NET
  146. START).
  147.  
  148. 4.   Restart the computer and load both networks.
  149.  
  150. 5.   Run Windows.
  151.  
  152. 6.   Go into the Windows for Workgroups Network Setup utility. 
  153. This can be done by opening the Windows Setup icon in the Main
  154. program group, and selecting "Change Network Settings..." from
  155. the options menu; or by opening the Network Setup icon in the
  156. Network program group.
  157.  
  158. 7.   Select the "Networks" button.  Verify that the "Install
  159. Microsoft Windows Network:" radio button is selected.  Verify
  160. that the "Other:" radio button is selected and that it indicates
  161. "Novell NetWare (Workstation Shell 4.0 and above)" as the other
  162. network.  Then select "OK".
  163.  
  164. 8.   Select the "Sharing" button.  Verify that the pieces you
  165. wish to share with the other workstations on the network are
  166. selected.  Then select "OK".
  167.  
  168. 9.   Select the "Drivers" button.
  169.  
  170. 10.  Verify that the proper network interface card (NIC) driver
  171. is in place.
  172.  
  173. 11.  Verify that the "IPX/SPX Compatible Transport" or the
  174. "IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS" driver is loading.
  175.  
  176. 12.  Verify that the "Microsoft NetBEUI" driver is loading.
  177.  
  178. 13.  Select IPX/SPX as the default protocol.  Then select "OK".
  179.  
  180. 14.  Select "OK" to close the Network Setup utility and save the
  181. changes.  You should not replace any of the drivers currently
  182. installed.
  183.  
  184. 15.  Exit Windows to a DOS prompt.
  185.  
  186. 16.  Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to move the NET START and
  187. ODIHLP.EXE lines so they execute after STARTNET.BAT.  They need
  188. to be moved because they rely on LSL and the MLID drivers that
  189. are loaded as part of STARTNET.BAT.
  190.  
  191. 17.  Edit the NET.CFG file in the C:\NWCLIENT directory to verify
  192. that the correct frame type for your network is loading.  IPX
  193. will only bind to one frame type.  The frame type you want IPX to
  194. bind to should be the first one listed in the LINK DRIVER
  195. section.
  196.  
  197. 18.  Reboot.  Start both networks; go into Windows; and verify
  198. that both networks are functioning correctly by mapping drives to
  199. both networks, printing to printers on both networks, and so
  200. forth.

  202. Note:     Currently, the PERSONAL NetWare network diagnostics
  203. will not function properly if Windows for Workgroups is running. 
  204. To use the diagnostics, verify that the diagnostics pieces are
  205. loading (see your PERSONAL NetWare documentation) and exit
  206. Windows.  You will have to use NET DIAGS (the DOS version).
